Edinburg, Texas, is experiencing significant growth, prompting the city to undertake various infrastructure projects and attract new businesses to meet the needs of its expanding population.
Infrastructure Enhancements
To address parking challenges in the downtown area, the city has initiated the construction of a three-story parking garage at the corner of McIntyre Street and Closner Boulevard, near the Hidalgo County Courthouse. This $6.2 million project aims to provide 268 parking spaces and is expected to be completed by early 2027.
Additionally, the city council has approved a $7.1 million workforce resource center and a new golf clubhouse at the Ebony Hills Golf Course. The 12,000-square-foot facility will feature simulated indoor golf bays on the first floor and meeting spaces for workforce development on the second floor. The project is slated for completion by July 2027.
Economic Investments
Edinburg’s economic landscape is also evolving with the arrival of Cavender’s Boot City. The western-wear retailer is investing approximately $5 million to renovate the former CVS property at 2820 W. University Drive. The new store is expected to create about 15 full-time jobs and is set to open later in 2026.
Community Engagement
Residents have actively participated in city council meetings, voicing concerns over taxes, library services, and development standards. The council has addressed these issues by maintaining the property tax rate and approving various development projects to accommodate the city’s growth.
